about me
photographer.
chemist.
film nerd.
Hi, I'm Sophie, a photographer and DIY chemist based in Louisville, Kentucky. I make instant photographs the hard way.
I'm obsessed with the mechanics of making images appear. Specifically the kind that peel apart: press two layers together, wait sixty seconds, pull them apart, and a photograph appears that didn't exist a minute ago.
I mix the chemistry myself. I coat the receiver sheets by hand. I use x-ray film as my negative. Every part of the process is made from scratch. My darkroom is my cellar. Every print is a small act of material alchemy.
The project is called SophiePeel. I'm currently selecting beta testers.
